New GSM Mobile Softswitch Brings IP-based Wireless Switching with
Integrated Services, Including SMS, Voice Mail, GPRS and Prepaid
Calling
SAN JOSE, CA, June 11, 2007—LGC Wireless, the leader in
specialized wireless coverage and capacity solutions, today announced
that Telecom Cook Islands Ltd. will deploy LGC’s new GSM
Softswitch. By upgrading its core wireless network to more efficient,
IP-based technology, Telecom Cook Islands will reduce costs while
enabling new, value-added services such as integrated SMS, voice
mail, GPRS and prepaid calling.
Designed specifically for fast and cost-effective deployment in
smaller networks, LGC’s GSM Softswitch brings the latest
IP-based wireless switching technology to remote areas.
LGC Wireless’ GSM Softswitch and core network display a
unique compact and scalable architecture including integrated home/visitor
location register (HLR/VLR) functions, value-added services (VAS)
such as an authentication center (AuC) for roaming, IN prepaid,
SMS and voice mail.
“Wireless is a popular means of communications for Cook
Islands residents, so we need to ensure that our core network has
the capacity, efficiency, and features to serve their needs,” said
Stuart Davies, CEO at Telecom Cook Islands. “LGC Wireless
and its products have played a key role in our success as a provider,
and this GSM Softswitch will give us a new level of reliability,
efficiency and performance.”
The Cook Islands is located in the middle of the South Pacific,
and the Telecom Cook Islands network uses satellite links to connect
with the rest of the world. With the new IP Softswitch in its GSM
network, the carrier will be able to offer a higher capacity cellular
service with better performance.
“We are proud to have been chosen by our longtime customer
TCI for their network expansion by offering a combination of advanced,
cost-effective services and future proof technology,” said
Ian Sugarbroad, president and CEO of LGC Wireless. “The GSM
Softswitch is the first in a series of innovative products we’ll
be rolling out from our new Network Systems business unit,” added
Sugarbroad. “Going forward, we believe we will have great
synergies by being able to offer both the most advanced indoor
cellular distribution systems and the most advanced compact wireless
network systems.”
