3 Mobile First Carrier in Asia-Pacific to Deploy Fusion Cellular Coverage System

InterReach Fusion® and InterReach Unison® Products Support Capacity Upgrade for 3G Cellular Voice, Data, and Video Services at Major Cricket Venues

SAN JOSE, CA, April 16, 2007—LGC Wireless, the leader in advanced in-building wireless systems, today announced that 3 Mobile is the first carrier in the Asia-Pacific region to deploy LGC’s InterReach® Fusion product.

The Fusion system, which supports UMTS and W-CDMA voice, data, and video services on several frequencies, was chosen as part of the project to improve in-building coverage in major Australian cricket venues in time for the 3 Mobile Ashes cricket series, the biggest sporting event of the Australian summer. Fusion was deployed at the Sydney Cricket Ground and LGC’s InterReach Unison systems were deployed at Brisbane’s Woolloongabba (‘Gabba) complex and at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

As the major sponsor of the 3 Mobile Ashes cricket series held at the major venues in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, 3 Mobile anticipated an increase in coverage demands for voice and its live mobile Cricket TV product. The upgrade had to be completed in time for thousands of Australian and English cricket fans to enjoy 3 Mobile’s services during the three-month cricket series, which began in Brisbane in November 2006.

The upgrade project was awarded to Kordia™ Solutions, which chose LGC Fusion and Unison systems provided by WiComm, LGC’s value-added reseller in Australia.

Kordia Solutions’ Specialised Coverage Services group had just two months to deploy the systems. The successful deployment delivers enhanced coverage and capacity in all public areas of these cricket grounds, including seating, food outlets, bars as well as corporate suites, boxes, meeting and dining rooms.

“We were given the challenge to complete a deployment in three large stadiums in a fraction of the time it would normally require, and LGC worked hard to get the equipment to us quickly in order to make it happen,” said Lindsay Patience, principal consultant of Kordia™ Solutions’ Specialised Coverage Services group. “Because the Fusion system is multi-carrier, we needed only one set of electronics and standard CATV cabling to serve both UMTS and W-CDMA frequencies throughout the Sydney Cricket Ground.”

“LGC Wireless products were a key part of successfully delivering improved coverage for 3 Mobile’s customers at a time when demand in the stadiums was at an all-time high,” added Patience.

The Sydney Cricket Ground system includes two 3 Mobile base stations, 5 LGC main hubs, 9 expansion hubs, and 65 remote antennas to distribute signals throughout the facility. At the ’Gabba, Kordia ™ installed a 79-antenna Unison system. The Melbourne Cricket Ground also received a smaller Unison system.

“LGC is the world leader in covering large public venues, from cricket grounds for the 3 Mobile Ashes series in Australia to the world’s major airports and stadiums, and we continue to lead the market because our systems deliver the highest possible performance with remarkable ease of deployment,” said John Spindler, vice president of marketing at LGC Wireless. “3 Mobile has become the first international carrier to deploy our new Fusion system in the Asia-Pacific, and we anticipate rising deployments of that system throughout our global market.”
