Orange France Selects LGC Unison Systems For New Paris Headquarters

Three-Building, 46,000 Square Meter Facility in Vache Noire District Gets Pervasive GSM and UMTS Coverage

SAN JOSE, CALIF., December 11, 2006—LGC Wireless, the leader in advanced in-building wireless systems, today announced that Orange France has deployed its InterReach Unison® in-building cellular systems to provide strong and pervasive UMTS and GSM coverage inside the new Orange headquarters campus in Paris.

As a leading telecommunications company in Europe and the UK, we wanted our new French headquarters to be a showcase of architectural design as well as advanced communications technology,” said Emmanuel Gaultier of Orange France. “The Unison system’s outstanding performance and ease of deployment made LGC Wireless a natural choice for our in-building wireless infrastructure.”

The new facility includes three, 8-story buildings that total over 46,000 square meters in all. Its stunning architecture includes the use of aluminum building panels, which make it difficult or impossible for workers inside the building to receive adequate cellular coverage from external macro cells. To provide pervasive in-building GSM and UMTS coverage, system integrator First Line Telecom deployed 150 ceiling-mounted antennas, which are driven by active electronic hubs via standard building cabling.

“The Unison system makes it much easier for us to deliver outstanding service to our customers,” said Xavier Jaquard of First Line Telecom. “Because it delivers uniformly strong signals at each remote antenna and uses standard building cabling, it’s very easy for us to rapidly deploy a system that delivers optimum coverage throughout any facility.”

The Unison system’s active electronics deliver wireless signals from a micro base station through Main Hubs in the campus communications center, and from there via fiber to Expansion Hubs in each building, which are linked via standard Cat-6 cabling to the remote antennas. Thanks to the use of standard cabling, deployment costs and time were kept to a minimum.

“European carriers like our Unison system because they support both GSM and UMTS carrier frequency and can easily be upgraded to improve capacity, coverage, or support future services without changing antenna placements,” said Erik Nilsson, director of European sales for LGC Wireless. “We are pleased that Orange, like other European carriers, has selected our system for its own headquarters facilities.”
