LGC Wireless Brings 3G Mobile Usage Indoors
In-Building Wireless
Systems Bring 3G Coverage to Petronas Towers, Berjaya Times Square,
Mid Valley Mall in Malaysia
SAN JOSE, CA, July 24, 2006—LGC Wireless, the leader in
advanced in-building wireless systems, today announced that its
InterReach® Unison systems are bringing 3G cellular usage inside
some of Malaysia’s signature buildings, including the Petronas
Towers (the world’s tallest twin towers building), the Berjaya
Times Square theme park and shopping center, and the Mid Valley
Mall. By enabling 3G coverage inside these facilities, LGC Wireless
is helping wireless carriers increase revenues and customer satisfaction
by delivering advanced mobile enterprise applications, interactive
games, and other high-speed services to subscribers wherever they
are.
According to the head of the Mobile Access Division at Celcom,
one of Malaysia’s leading wireless service providers, “In-building
coverage is crucial to consumer acceptance of 3G data services,
because studies have shown that 70 percent of 3G calls originate
from inside buildings. The LGC Wireless system has allowed us to
deploy strong 3G coverage throughout properties such as Berjaya
Times Square and Mid Valley Mall with minimal disruption.”
While indoor coverage is a challenge for all cellular services,
supporting indoor 3G service is even tougher because it uses a
higher frequency which is more easily attenuated by steel, concrete,
and other building materials. LGC’s system overcomes these
issues by using distributed antennas, managed hubs, and standard
fiber and Ethernet cabling for fast, non-disruptive, and cost-effective
deployments that deliver the same high signal strength throughout
a building. By deploying Unison systems, the Petronas Towers, Berjaya
Times Square, and Mid Valley Mall can now deliver the most advanced
wireless communications services to tenants and visitors of their
buildings
“Malaysia, Japan, and other Asian countries have been the
world’s early adopters of 3G cellular technology, and these
deployments show how they are enabling it for business and recreational
users inside their buildings,” said John Spindler, vice president
of marketing at LGC Wireless. “The owners of these marquee
properties and our other customers choose our systems because they
deliver the highest performance, offer virtually limitless scalability,
and can easily be upgraded to support new services in the future.”
