Sunderby Hospital Chooses In-Building Cellular System from
LGC Wireless
...LGC’s InterReach® Unison System Delivers GSM 1800 Service for IT
Staff in Phase I Rollout...
SAN JOSE, CA, September 19, 2007—LGC
Wireless, the leading supplier of
In-Building
Wireless solutions and specialized
Network Systems to the Fortune 500, has deployed its
InterReach® Unison in-building hospital cellular system to
provide consistent cellular service at Sunderby Hospital in
Norbotten, Sweden. LGC partner Absolute Mobile AB, based in
Stockholm, Sweden, deployed the system.
Sunderby Hospital was built in 1999 and represents a new approach to
community medical care that offers the latest in medical
technologies in a unique environment. It is designed to resemble a
village and is organised around two main streets with connecting
paths and footbridges, all in a fully-enclosed facility. The
hospital features 440 beds and also houses multiple clinics, 19
operating theatres, a hotel for hospital visitors, a large
children’s area, and extensive surrounding parklands that include a
private lake.
The IT administration at Sunderby Hospital selected the InterReach
Unison system to provide GSM cellular coverage because of its
outstanding performance, deployment simplicity, and scalability. The
initial Unison system covers the hospital’s IT centre in the
basement, and allows the IT staff to remain in communication as they
tend to various information and communications systems. In addition,
the hospital administration is evaluating a broader deployment of
the Unison system throughout the facility.
“The Unison system has given us totally reliable cellular telephone
service in an area where there was none before,” said Thomas Hansson,
IT manager at Sunderby Hospital. “It has improved the efficiency of
our IT operations, and we are very pleased with the system’s
performance.”
The InterReach Unison in-building cellular system at Sunderby
hospital uses a main hub, expansion hub and six remote antennas.
Like all Unison systems, it is based on an active architecture that
delivers high, uniform signal strength at every remote antenna,
regardless of its distance from the central hub. With its use of
standard fiber optic and Ethernet cabling, the Unison system is easy
to deploy with minimal disruption to hospital operations. After
further evaluation this summer, the hospital administration may
authorize a wider rollout of the Unison system to bring cellular
service to other hospital areas.
“Health care operations rely on fast and reliable mobile
communications, and our Unison system provides clear and consistent
coverage in dozens of major hospitals around the world,” said John
Spindler, vice president of marketing for LGC Wireless. “Our
advanced system architecture delivers the highest performance with
minimal disruption during deployment, and is an ideal complement for
the other high-tech systems in place at leading edge health care
facilities like Sunderby Hospital.”
