Baptist Healthcare System Selects LGC Wireless as In-Building Wireless
Solution for Multi-Carrier Cellular
InterReach Fusion® In-building Wireless System Enables
Facility-Wide Cellular Services from Three Major Carriers in Major
Kentucky Healthcare System
SAN JOSE, CA, August 13, 2007—LGC
Wireless, the leader in specialized
in-building wireless
coverage and capacity solutions, today announced that Baptist
Healthcare System, Inc. (BHSI) has deployed LGC Wireless’
multi-carrier InterReach
Fusion® in-building wireless system to enable critical staff and
physician communications at its Baptist East Hospital in Louisville,
Kentucky. The LGC system delivers strong and consistent cellular
services for AT&T, Sprint Nextel, and Verizon Wireless users
throughout the six-floor, million square-foot facility.
LGC Wireless is a leader in hospital wireless solutions. An LGC
InterReach Unison® in-building cellular system has also been
deployed at BHSI’s Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, and the
organization plans to deploy LGC Wireless systems in facilities
expansions in Louisville as well as at Western Baptist Hospital in
Paducah during 2008.
“Other vendors had promised a lot of additional services on their
in-building systems, but when it came right down to it, LGC Wireless
provides the best performance with the simplest deployment at the
best price,” said Jim Laval, manager of corporate IT at BHSI.
Installed within two months, the InterReach Fusion system at Baptist
East Hospital uses an active architecture consisting of intelligent
hubs and remote antennas, all connected with thin CATV cabling.
Compact electronics, multi-carrier capabilities, and flexible
cabling were important assets during the deployment, which involved
linking building sections separated by walls two feet thick.
“Our doctors couldn’t communicate outside of the OR without using
pagers before,” says Laval, “but now the Fusion system allows
doctors and staff to use push-to-talk, e-mail, and other advanced
services from anywhere in the hospital,” said Laval.
In addition to its Baptist East Hospital, BHSI has deployed an LGC
InterReach Unison system at its Central Baptist Hospital in
Lexington, Kentucky, and plans additional LGC systems in 2008 for an
eight-story expansion of the Baptist East Hospital, a new, 250,000
square-foot outpatient surgery center in Louisville, and its
six-story Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.
“Healthcare providers like BHSI are increasingly depending on LGC
Wireless for their critical wireless communications infrastructure,”
said John Spindler, vice president of marketing for LGC Wireless.
“As cellular connectivity becomes an expected service in healthcare
facilities, LGC’s advantages of performance, scalability,
cost-effectiveness, and ease of deployment are making us the leading
provider in this market.”
